Dr. George Hightower
Candidate for Lieutenant Governor

Dr. George Hightower is a physician, military veteran, community leader, and associate minister whose life has been defined by service to others. He came to Alaska for the fishing — and stayed for the soul of the place. He calls Alaska "a little bit of heaven" and intends to remain for the rest of his life.
Education & Early Leadership
Dr. Hightower graduated from Whittier College, where he served as Captain of the basketball team, earned Athlete of the Year honors, and received the Outstanding Leadership Award. He was twice inducted into the Whittier College Athletic Hall of Fame and represented the United States in the 1978 Jones Cup Tournament in Taipei, Taiwan. He earned his medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine after receiving a prestigious U.S. Navy Health Professions Scholarship — one of only 200 awarded nationally.
Military Service
Dr. Hightower served honorably as a United States Navy Medical Officer during Operation Desert Storm, overseeing the health and welfare of more than 1,000 sailors and Marines aboard the USS Cleveland. He later managed medical readiness for more than 32 naval ships and Marine units at Naval Station San Diego, earning the Navy Achievement Medal and two Navy Commendation Medals.
Healthcare Career
Dr. Hightower worked with Oasis Sports Medical Group serving the San Diego Chargers, then founded Landmark Occupational Health in Williston, North Dakota — growing it into the largest private occupational health practice in the state, serving more than 100 energy-sector companies. In Alaska, he served as Medical Director for Sunshine Community Clinics in Talkeetna.
Faith & Service
Dr. Hightower's Christian faith is central to who he is and why he serves. He joined Edna DeVries' ticket because of her leadership, her ability to build consensus across party lines, and their shared commitment to the foundational values that make Alaska strong. He wants every Alaskan to feel trust, safety, and hope when they see the DeVries-Hightower ticket on the ballot.
"Together, we will fight for families, strengthen communities, and put Alaska first."
