Edna's Vision For The Great State Of Alaska
Government Transparency & Integrity
Alaskans deserve a government they can see and understand. Edna believes public office is a public trust — every decision, every dollar, and every vote should be made in full view of the people it serves.
As Mayor of the Mat-Su Borough, Edna has championed open meetings, plain-language budgets, and accessible records. As Governor, she will bring that same standard to Juneau — rebuilding trust between citizens and their state government.
- Open, transparent public meetings at every level of state government
- Plain-language budgets Alaskans can actually read
- Accountable spending with clear performance measures
- Ethics reform that puts Alaskans ahead of special interests
Responsible Resource Development
Alaska's prosperity is tied to its land, its waters, and its resources. Edna supports smart, sustainable development that creates good jobs, strengthens our economy, and protects the country we all love.
Under Edna's leadership, the Mat-Su Borough advanced Port MacKenzie, secured a $7M+ barge ramp grant, and reduced unnecessary regulations that were holding Alaskan business back.
- Advance Port MacKenzie as a strategic hub for Alaska trade and industry
- Secured a $7M+ barge ramp grant to expand regional infrastructure
- Streamlined, common-sense permitting that respects Alaska's land
- Energy independence through responsible oil, gas, and mining development
- Reduce regulations that burden small businesses and working Alaskans
Community First
Strong communities are the foundation of a strong Alaska. Edna will champion the schools, the small businesses, and the public safety that make our towns and neighborhoods thrive.
From investing in local startups to hosting the Arctic Winter Games, Edna has spent her career building Alaska from the ground up — community by community, family by family.
- Strong public schools that prepare Alaska's next generation
- Support for the Arctic Winter Games and Alaska's cultural traditions
- Small business support and investment in local startups
- Strong public safety in every borough, town, and village
- Infrastructure investment that keeps Alaska communities thriving
Fiscal Responsibility & the State Budget
Alaska has a spending problem. Edna has a degree in accounting, years of experience as a city treasurer, and a track record of building budgets that actually balance. She will bring that discipline to Juneau.
As Governor, Edna will implement zero-based budgeting — requiring every state program to justify its costs from scratch each year rather than simply rolling over prior-year spending. She will direct commissioners to audit their departments for program overlaps and redundancies, cutting what doesn't work and investing in what does. The goal is a lean, accountable government that respects every dollar it receives from Alaskans.
- Zero-based budgeting to hold every program accountable
- Audit state departments for overlap, redundancy, and waste
- Commissioners held to high integrity standards and clear performance metrics
- Separate PFD appropriations from the general operating budget
- Scrutiny on expenditures, not just revenue
Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD)
The law is the law. Edna will follow the statutory PFD formula — full stop. Alaskans have watched the legislature raid, reduce, and redirect the PFD for years. As Governor, Edna will include the full statutory formula in her budget and advocate publicly for it. The PFD belongs to Alaskans, and it should be treated as a separate appropriation — not something that competes with the operating budget.
- Full statutory PFD formula included in the Governor's budget every year
- PFD treated as a separate appropriation from state services
- Transparent, public advocacy for the full PFD before the legislature
- No raiding the Permanent Fund to cover government overspending
Energy & the LNG Pipeline
Alaska is one of the most energy-rich states in the nation — and Alaskans pay some of the highest energy costs in the country. That makes no sense, and Edna intends to fix it.
Edna is a strong supporter of completing the LNG pipeline. This is not just an economic development project — it is an energy independence issue, a cost-of-living issue, and a long-term fiscal stability issue for the state. She will use the full authority of the governor's office to advance the pipeline and support responsible oil, gas, and resource development that creates good jobs and keeps Alaska competitive.
- Advance completion of the LNG pipeline as a top executive priority
- Support responsible oil, gas, mining, and timber development
- Reduce energy costs for Alaska families and businesses
- Streamline permitting while protecting Alaska's lands and communities
- Engage rural and resource communities in development decisions
Education & School Choice
Every child in Alaska deserves an education that fits who they are and where they're going. Edna believes parents — not the state — should be the primary decision-makers in their child's education. She supports school choice and wants the Base Student Allocation (BSA) to follow the student, giving families real flexibility whether they choose public school, vocational training, homeschooling, or advanced academic programs.
Edna has seen firsthand — as a former college instructor and as a public servant — what happens when education systems fail to adapt to the needs of students. She will push to expand pathways, fund what works, and trust families to make the best decisions for their children.
- School choice — BSA funding follows the student
- Expand vocational and trade education pathways
- Support homeschool families and alternative education options
- Invest in strong public schools that prepare Alaska's next generation
- Parents' rights as the foundation of education policy
Public Safety
Safe communities are the foundation of everything else. Edna is a strong supporter of law enforcement and believes mutual respect — between officers and the communities they serve — is the foundation of effective public safety. She will support Alaska's law enforcement agencies with the tools, training, and resources they need, and she will work to ensure every borough, town, and village in Alaska has access to effective public safety services.
- Strong support for law enforcement and first responders
- Mutual respect between communities and officers as a foundation for lower crime
- Investment in public safety infrastructure across all of Alaska
- Address substance abuse and social issues that drive crime in communities
Alaska Marine Highway System
For communities like Ketchikan, the Alaska Marine Highway System is not a luxury — it is the road. Edna grew up on the ferry and understands at a personal level what it means to communities that have no other way in or out. She is committed to robust operation of the Marine Highway and will review its management for efficiency without compromising service to the coastal communities that depend on it.
- Treat the Marine Highway System as essential infrastructure
- Review management and operations for efficiency and cost-effectiveness
- Maintain reliable service to all coastal communities
- Advocate for stable, adequate funding for the ferry system
